"In this training, there was a wealth of practical ideas for how to work with nature as co-therapist. I valued learning how to conceptualize clients from an eco-therapy perspective. I also appreciate being able to consult on particular cases with Kimberly to work on applying the training to specific clients I am seeing." |
Rewilding Your work: Ecotherapy Applications for Helping Professionals - Local Trainings
Growing interest and research in nature-based therapies has practitioners curious about taking their sessions beyond the office walls – yet uncertain as to how.
Integrating wild environments into counseling means more than just re-locating your sessions. Ecotherapy takes both therapist and client beyond an outdated, mechanistic view of self-as-separate from the world, and helps to restore wholeness.
Join me in Rewilding Your Work, a 2 day workshop in which we will embrace the opportunity and responsibility to be nature-connected and ecologically-literate practitioners while learning approaches to collaborating with the more-than-human world.
Rewilding Your Work is not meant to be prescriptive, but generative; to catalyze your own awareness of nature and your creativity in natural settings. You are also likely to find this course personally nourishing.
These ideas and experientials are vital at a time when the domestication of our planet, our lifestyles, our emotions, and the field of psychotherapy itself is at an all-time high – threatening the health and sanity of the human animal and global ecosystems.
Workshops include:
- Your visions and dreams of a nature-connected practice and world
- What does Rewilding & Un-domesticating Therapy mean? What is Ecotherapy? Attuning to our Human Ecology
- Ecological Identity: Assessing appropriateness & developing a profound sense of self in natural and social ecosystems
- Development of Relational Humans: Attachment & attunement with people and nature
- Safety & Regulation in Nature: Considering our sensuous, mammalian bodies and nervous systems
- Developing the uncommon assets: Naturalist Intelligence & Ecological literacy
- Models of engaging with nature that can be used clinically and mindfully
- Nature-based applications and collaborations: Blending bird language, tracking, human senses and environmental awareness into your work
- Structure & facilitation of nature-based sessions
- Practical & logistical considerations of moving sessions outdoors
- ***Bonus*** Freeman Attachment Theory and Human Development Model and applying to nature-based work

'This past weekend with Kimberly I was reminded of the importance of tapping into my curiosity. Pausing in the middle of a sentence to notice the elk walking just behind me, taking moments to listen to where the earth was calling me to tune into, and exploring the life all around me - reminded me of the very reason I do this work. Through attending Kimberly's ecotherapy workshop, I met with an incredible group of nature practitioners as we gathered in the trees to share, connect and learn. Together we learned and explored Rewilding, creative ecotherapy techniques, polyvagal theory and nature, eco-identity and so much more! It was so lovely experiencing first hand how truly connected we are with Earth and each other.' -Marissa Brun, LMFT, Live training participant |
